Inauguration of the Wasseiges–Hannut Wind Farm
16 January 2026
Together with Eneco, we officially inaugurated the joint Hannut–Wasseiges wind farm on 16 January 2026. This new project, spanning both municipalities, represents a significant milestone for renewable energy in Wallonia and highlights the strength of cooperation in accelerating the energy transition.
About the wind farm
The wind farm is equally shared between both partners and consists of six wind turbines: three operated by Elicio and three by Eneco. These latest-generation turbines reach a tip height of 180 metres and each have a capacity of 4.2 MW, ensuring optimal performance even at moderate wind speeds.
Annual production is estimated at 65,000 MWh, enough to supply nearly 18,690 households with green electricity. The project will also help avoid approximately 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, thereby actively contributing to regional and national climate objectives.
A winter inauguration
The inauguration took on a unique winter after-work atmosphere, featuring an original light show on one of the wind turbines. It was a beautiful Friday evening to celebrate this new step towards green energy together. And it is worth celebrating: in a context where permitting policies are becoming increasingly challenging, we continue to move forward together, delivering projects and building a sustainable, low-carbon future.
Peter Goderis, CEO of Elicio: “The commissioning of this wind farm reflects Elicio’s long-term growth strategy in Wallonia. We are particularly proud to deliver a new project in the Province of Liège, on land owned by shareholders of the Enodia/Nethys Group. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who was present at the inauguration, and, above all, for contributing to the realisation of this project. The dedication and collective efforts of so many have been key to making this achievement possible.”
