La Tourelle wind farm becomes cooperative Enercoop's first wind turbine

9 February 2023

The La Tourelle wind turbine, with a capacity of 2.3 MW, is located in the municipality of Castanet Le Haut, in the southern French region of Hérault. This wind turbine has been the only site at a significant distance from Elicio's development and operation activities located in the North.

The cooperative Enercoop, supplier of 100% renewable electricity, has sites across France. They proved to be the strongest candidate during a sale process in the second half of 2022. Enercoop aims to increase the share of wind power in its electricity mix. Given Enercoop's cooperative model, its desire to accelerate its own energy production activities and its local presence, it is a win-win for all parties, including the cooperative's local citizens and stakeholders.

The Enercon wind turbine was commissioned in 2009 and has produced an average of 4,783 MWh per year, i.e. the annual electricity consumption of 2,400 households. This has also avoided the emission of 206 tonnes of CO2 each year. After 14 years of loyal service, Elicio is entrusting the turbine to Enercoop, which will immediately increase its own production capacity and hopefully provide its customers with a lot more wind energy in the years to come.
