10 years of Elicio: focus and ambition as a recipe for successful growth

13 September 2024

Ostend, 12 September 2024 – In 10 years, Ostend-based Elicio has grown into a leading international player in renewable energy. The company, which is active in the development, financing, construction and operation of both onshore and offshore wind farms, has managed nearly a five-fold increase in its renewable energy production. It is developing promising medium to large-scale wind projects across Belgium, France, Serbia, Spain and Scotland. The total operational capacity of their wind farms today stands at approximately 1,500 MW, equivalent to the annual energy demands of 1.4 million households.

Looking ahead, Elicio expects to continue its growth trajectory, with the ambition to double its renewable energy production by the start of the next decade. In doing so, Elicio’s commitment and expertise as a leader in renewable energy solutions will continue to help drive the global transition towards a greener society.

Solid growth driven by focus and enterprising spirit

Elicio’s story started in 2014. With only a limited number of employees, the company started with 142 MW total operational wind farms in Belgium and France. Together with a carefully selected portfolio of onshore and offshore wind projects in the works, this is where Elicio’s growth trajectory began.

By virtue of its enterprising spirit, its pioneering role in offshore wind development and the drive of its team, the company has grown to become a leading player, boasting 38 onshore farms (accounting for 363 MW), along with sizeable stakes in three North Sea offshore wind farms – Rentel, Norther and Seamade, accounting for a total capacity of 1,166 MW, with Elicio’s share standing at 266 MW. Altogether, Elicio’s current portfolio of onshore and offshore wind farms accounts for a combined 629 MW. Today, the team has grown to 84 employees, operating across five European countries.

Laurent Levaux, Chairman of the Elicio Board of Directors:Today, Elicio celebrates a decade of incredible achievements. Elicio’s story began in 2014, born out of the conviction of its shareholder Nethys (Enodia group) and an ambitious vision from its management. Through expertise and dedication, the team has translated this vision into a solid track record. We very much look forward to reaching new milestones, while continuing to introduce sustainable solutions and further strengthening our position in the market.’

Tinne Van der Straeten, Minister of Energy: ‘It is thanks to companies like Elicio that Belgium finds itself among the world’s top renewable energy producers. Our companies’ know-how and expertise ensure that, as a small nation, we are able to play a leading role in offshore wind. Here’s to at least another decade of technological advances and the exporting of climate solutions around the world. ‘

Ambitious growth plans and innovation

In the future, Elicio will continue its commitment to the transition towards a greener society.
The company aims to double its operational onshore capacity to more than 700 MW by 2030 through further development of its extensive project pipeline. In addition, Elicio plans to deploy its existing offshore expertise in Belgium to bid for the Princess Elisabeth Zone via the Otary consortium. Internationally, Elicio and its partners recently acquired the rights to develop offshore floating wind farms, offering an estimated capacity of 1,000 MW in Scottish waters, as well as 250 MW in Brittany, France.

Alain Janssens, Elicio CEO: ‘Today, we celebrate 10 years of daring, innovation, expertise and collaboration. This success is testament to the hard work of the Elicio team, who are committed to actively shaping the future of renewable energy each and every day. Thank you to all our staff and partners for your continued trust and support. We are looking to the future with optimism, and will continue to explore new opportunities to ensure both environmental sustainability and energy security.’
